As you’re traveling, we will challenge you to make a positive impact on the places and people you visit while a portion of the challenges is meant to have an impact on you. Some of the challenges are physical experiences in predetermined locations, others are location-independent, and a few are fully online. You will complete them as a team and collect points towards becoming this year’s most impactful travelers of the challenge.

The Impact Challenge pushes you to the corners of your comfort zone by challenging you to seek alternative forms of transportation, to stop and talk to strangers, to engage deeper, to go off the beaten track, and go slow. Will everything be easy along the way? Nope. Will you overcome all the obstacles? We’re pretty confident. Will you grow from it? Yep! Bring all of your curiosity and channel your inner explorer to get the most out of the trip, while knowing that you always have the community as your safety net.

How do you get from A to B? Even if this is a trip from Berlin to Istanbul, this journey is not about the A-B, but everything in between. Hopefully, you’ll get lost along the way – it’s the absolute best way to find something unexpected. If you choose the Impact Challenge, it’s because you want to find places that your friends haven’t even heard of and communicate with people with whom you have no common language. This is a true adventure with the freedom that it demands but also with the comfort of a community that is always ready to support you.
OFF THE BEATEN TRACK
… On the beat of the train track. Close your eyes and imagine you’re on a train through Europe. Can you hear the beat of the track? ChChug ChChug. This will be the base rhythm of how you get around. Did you know that you can get from Berlin to Istanbul in less than two days by train? Of course, you’d miss all of the fun and challenges that lie in between – off the track. A 5-day interrail pass is included and will be the base for you to get around.
SLOW DOWN, EXPERIENCE MORE
How does going slow fit with a race, you might ask? Well, this is a challenge where you gather points based on the impact you’re making by completing challenges. Since not all challenges are based on locations, you have time to actually explore the unexplored. Go into the wild, feel how the experiences are influencing you, interact with the people on your way. Don’t just visit, engage! That’s when the truly impactful experiences happen.

You will return home changed. That’s what the best trips will do to you – they will impact you and make you grow from the experiences and encounters along the way. This includes the way you travel. In addition to the memories, you'll also come away with insight on how to incorporate sustainable choices into future travels and an understanding of how your choices impact the environment and the communities you visit.
